Mensch’s

Freelance Studio — Identity, Direction, Type

Description

No new spin; no modern twists: just the Jewish deli classics that all know and love. After a successful pop-up with bagels and more, Mensch’s opened in July 2024 as a casual dining hit for the Evanston, Illinois, community.

Goal

Mensch’s calls for a no-nonsense, classic New York identity that avoids the pitfalls of Pinterest faux vintage, with a foundation in flawed type and accent pieces drawn from the joys of restuarant operation.

Implementation

With a series of 1950s-inspired, sign-painted-style brand marks, Mensch’s brings the spirit of New York casual dining to Evanston. A baseball jersey script mark serves as the primary, with a fat custom typeface supporting the base of the identity.
